Christina Coobatis: First Impressions

Hello, world!

I’m Christina, the Design Resident at People’s Liberty. My primary job is to help with the graphic design of PL’s promotional materials, which can range from a simple website banner announcing the open application for a grant, all the way to the entire visual identity for a philanthropic conference we’ve hosted.

Starting a new job can be intimidating; you worry about making a good first impression, but also hope it’s a place you’ll feel comfortable being yourself. Thankfully, the PL folks know how to welcome newcomers by getting them involved right away. Our work environment is one big open studio, which enables our communication with each other to be open, as well. This is one of the main factors that separates the Residency from your average internship. You are included in every team meeting and brainstorming session, so that when tasks are delegated to you, you fully understand the context that your work fits into. Plus, working within a small team of proactive individuals allows you to see your solutions implemented right away.
